SING! - Psalms 97-99

Songs have great power.

Just the beginning of a song can bring back a memory that perhaps you have not thought about for a long time.

A song has the power to make you feel strong, happy, sad, or angry. Songs call us together, and separate those of different persuasions.

Songs have the power to rally our hearts to do great things.

And songs have the power to help us remember and rest in the greatness of God.

Perhaps that is why our psalms for today are focused on our singing great songs to God:

The Eternal reigns powerful over all; let the earth sing with joy. (Psalm 97:1 The Voice)

Compose a new song, and sing it to the Eternal because of the unbelievable things he has done; He has won the victory with the skill of His right hand and strength of His holy arm. Raise your voice, make a beautiful noise to the Eternal, all the earth. (Psalm 98:1,4 The Voice)

When we sing of the greatness of God, we cannot but help draw closer to Him. As we draw closer to Him, we love Him more. When we love Him more, we will want to praise Him more - even on our knees. “Lift up the Eternal our God in your heart; bow down to the earth where he rests His feet. He is holy, perfect and exalted in His power.” (Psalm 99:5 The Voice)

Today as you go about your day, I want to challenge you to sing of the greatness of God. Make a joyful noise to Him. Turn on the radio to 88.5, 95.3 or 91.7 and sing along. Grab a hymnal and sing your favorites. Make a song up. As you do, notice how it improves you attitude and worship of God. He gave us the gift of music and songs to use to bring us close to Him. Don't neglect this great gift. Use it to worship the Eternal!

As the Psalmist says sing a new song to the Lord. Make a joyful noise. Sing to Him, until His greatness brings you to your knees!
